  • SRP Shade Tree Workshop & Distribution Events
We distribute hundreds of free shade trees to residents across the Valley. These are large scale, fun events and we could not run them without volunteers!

Volunteer roles vary from greeter/customer service and registration roles, to more physically active roles such as lifting and distributing trees up to 15 lbs. max each.
These events run every month from March- November.
  • Help Trees Matter Behind the Scenes
We're looking for volunteers who can assist with increasing administrative demands behind the scenes in our office!

Expect to: organize, track, and analyze data, prepare our event paperwork, and help file away important documents.

  • Edible Tree Program
The Edible Tree Program is devoted to educating the community on the function of trees as a means of food. Volunteers help through event support--assisting at classes, harvesting events, and annual Mesquite Pancake Breakfast!

  • Internships
Every semester Trees Matter recruits college-level students to join the team! Interns help coordinate and execute events, gain hands-on experience in a growing nonprofit, learn about community engagement & promotion, gain understanding of inner workings of a nonprofit & event planning, and more.

To view full internship descriptions and learn how to apply, visit our career opportunities page.

words from a volunteer

Katie Arias, volunteer since 2011

"My name is Katie and I volunteer at Trees Matter because I love it so much! Having successful and thriving trees is one of the most pressing concerns in our city (and the world). Volunteering for an organization that arms citizens with the ability to properly care for their trees and help them successfully mature is an amazing thing. I am a Certified Arborist and a Master Gardener. I do enjoy using my knowledge to help other people learn how to properly care for trees and other plants. Healthier stronger trees means that less power and water is wasted, which in turn cycles through and means less environmental damage. Trees Matter holds a special place in my heart. This organization does so much good in the world. I feel an indescribable amount of joy and satisfaction when I get to volunteer at the shade tree events. And truly, there’s not a better group of people out there."
