FREE Carob Pod Harvest and Storage Education Event!

Instructor: Peggy Sorensen

Carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua) have been used in Phoenix landscaping for over 50 years and are plentiful around the valley. The edible pods are high in riboflavin, calcium, potassium, copper, manganese, and fiber and can be used as a chocolate substitute.

Join VPA to learn how to harvest ripe pods and store them until our fall milling event. This is an onsite talk and demonstration at a private residence with a carob tree. Bring water, a hat, a sheet to catch the pods, and a bucket to pick up as many pods as you want until they run out!

FUN FACT: The word "carat", which is still used today to measure gold and diamonds, comes from the Arabic name for the carob seeds because of their uniformity in weight.

This is a free event but please come prepared. This is a private residence and you will receive the address once you are registered.
